Energy retrofitting ‘should cut property tax’

HOMEOWNERS’ potential annual property tax bill should be reduced if they invest in energy efficiency house retrofitting, according to the Construction Industry Federation (CIF).

The CIF is one of a number of stakeholders who are working with the Government at present to design a new energy efficiency scheme which will take over from the current grant-aided programme which is due to run out in 2014.

Under the current scheme, householders are given grants for insulation, more efficient boilers and the installation of solar panels.
