County gets in the mood for culture
The county council’s arts service and the County Museum in Clonmel have a full programme of events throughout Friday while other towns across Tipperary will also be hosting events.
An exhibition of old photos by former RTÉ cameraman and photographer Donal Wylde continues at the museum. Entitled Light of Other Days, and held to coincide with his book of the same name, the exhibition is a record of life in Tipperary during the 1960s and 1970s and will close on Saturday.
On Friday evening, the Bugle Babes will be performing their “toons”, combining slick singing, harmonies, seamed stockings and retro hairstyles. Their songs include Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Chatanooga Choo-Choo by Glenn Miller, Moonlight Serenade, as well as modern songs such as Beyonce’s Crazy in Love, I Will Survive, Could it be Magic and plenty more.
A book on one of the founders of the GAA, entitled Maurice Davin, a Man and His Boat, will be launched at 7.30pm in the museum and will be followed by traditional music from Nora Butler, Eileen O’Brien and Jennifer Minogue.
Later there’s tango dancing with instructor Jazmin Chiodo from Argentina.

Other venues opening late across the county are the Excel Arts and Cultural Centre in Tipperary town, which is hosting an exhibition by Ann Brennan, Rustic Awakening, and a screening of the film 100 Mornings; the Craft Granary in Cahir, with an exhibition of work by the Kilkenny Crafters; and Cashel Library, with musical entertainment at 6.30pm and a table quiz on the arts at 8pm.
Co-ordinated by the Temple Bar Cultural Trust and supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Culture Night is being organised locally by the South Tipperary County Council Arts Service and South Tipperary County Museum.
