ESB workers should be “confident” that mistakes made in the sale of state assets in the past will not be repeated in current plans to dispose of parts of the company.

Enterprise and Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said he would “not tell unions what to do” as workers prepare to ballot on industrial action.

But he said the Government’s mind is made up and selling part of the ESB is the “prudent” thing to do.
