BMX daredevils hit heights at Tramore sea festival
The Ramprage BMX team will showcase their skills at an exclusive session on Saturday, September 24.
Among the eight-strong team is Waterford rider Ali Power, who will descend on the seaside town to create a BMX buzz for a spectacular free display.
The Tramore Festival Ramprage will feature the Titan ramp, Ireland’s largest portable half-pipe.
Almost 8ft tall and 20ft wide, it can accommodate multiple performers.
Specially crafted extensions bolted to the top of each deck enable the riders to boost improbable heights, bringing out the competitive beast in the team.
Power said: “After rocking out with the Rage Crew all summer I’m delighted that we get to lay it down in Tramore before the season winds down. The guys behind the scenes at the festival have done a great job so far and we can’t wait to repay them for inviting us down in style on the Titan ramp.”
The fourth annual seaside festival offers a five-day programme celebrating water sports, beach games and the traditional Michaelmas Day, honouring the patron saint of seafarers, St Michael.
The festival starts on Thursday September 22, with an opening of art exhibitions and a Tramore of Yore exhibition at the local coastguard station.
Special festival menus will create food trails crisscrossing the town the next day, followed by live music at pub venues across the town.
Saturday week commences with more than 70 ladies taking to the waves as the ladies surf weekend kicks off, while Family Fun Sunday hosts a programme featuring over 45 activities and events, including seaweed doll making, seafood foraging and rock pool exploration on Tramore beach.
