THE state’s debt nightmare will begin to ease from 2013 but jobs will be lost in the process, the country’s leading economic think-tank has warned.

It comes after Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said the Government had “a long road to travel” in fixing the economy, but promised to “level with people” about the pain to be inflicted.

In research published today, the Economic and Social Research Institute paints a cautiously optimistic picture of Ireland’s ability to manage its debt between now and 2015.
