PLANS to release a report into the controversial deaths of three Irish soldiers have been put on hold.

The 110-page document had been expected to answer questions on the circumstances which led to the death in a roadside explosion of Corporal Fintan Heneghan, Private Tomás Walsh and Private Mannix Armstrong on peacekeeping duties in Lebanon in 1989.

The families of the men had been due to meet Defence Minister Alan Shatter yesterday to be briefed on the contents of a fresh inquiry he had ordered.
