Alleged abuser claims he deserves second chance
In the Dublin Archdiocese report, Judge Yvonne Murphy described Bill Carney’s abuse as some of the worst investigated. A psychiatrist’s assessment stated the former priest’s “refusal to acknowledge his paedophilia means the prognosis for a cure is bleak”.
However, in a letter to the Cheltenham-based Gloucestershire Echo newspaper, Carney said he does not pose “any threat or danger” to children and has not been accused of doing wrong for over 30 years.
