LIVES could have been put at risk after thieves stole an inflatable rescue boat and engine from a lifeguard station in Howth, it was claimed yesterday.

The equipment, worth some €5,000, was stolen between last Friday night and Saturday morning at the Claremont station in north Co Dublin.

The inflatable RIB boat is usually deployed at short notice by lifeguards on duty in case of emergency and Fingal County Council said it was satisfied that the equipment “was stolen to order”.
