‘Loveable lad’ killed by truck near home

A FOUR-YEAR-OLD boy was knocked down and killed by a truck just metres from his home yesterday evening.

Conor O’Brien, from Townley Manor, Tullyallen, Drogheda, Co Louth, was hit by the truck after he returned home from a fun day out with his family.

Conor, who was described by a neighbour as “a loveable little lad” had just arrived home and jumped on his bike while his parents took their unloaded their car.

Conor, who was due to start primary school within weeks, was hit by the truck just around 20 metres from his driveway at around 5.30pm yesterday.

His parents Mary and Paul, who have no other children, were being comforted by friends and neighbours last night.

A garda spokesman said: “We were notified at 5.45pm this evening that a 4-year-old cyclist in Townley Manor estate in Drogheda was knocked down by a truck.

“He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he was pronounced dead.”
