Gay not short of financial backers

BROADCASTER Gay Byrne revealed last night that he has been inundated with offers of funds for a campaign if he were to enter the race for the Áras.

The television presenter who has been asked by Fianna Fáil to stand also received the backing of music venue impresario Harry Crosbie, who said he would help fund Mr Byrne’s bid.

Appearing at the opening night of Grease the musical at the Grand Canal Theatre in Dublin, Mr Byrne said he was still considering whether to enter the presidential race.
