Tourist walks off balcony in sleep

AN IRISH holidaymaker has had a miracle escape after sleepwalking off the second floor of his hotel.

Tourist walks off balcony in sleep

The 19-year-old Dubliner plunged about 10 metres onto a concrete patio after wandering out of his room and climbing over a railing.

A waitress at the three-star Verdemar Apartments in the Majorcan resort of Santa Ponsa saw him hanging from the railing — but was unable to reach him before he dropped.

He was diagnosed with a broken ankle when he arrived at hospital and was discharged yesterday.

The incident happened around 8.20am yesterday.

A hotel worker, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s a miracle as far as we are concerned. This could so easily have been a tragedy.

“He’s apparently got an ankle injury and he’s hurt his mouth but we’ve heard it’s nothing too serious and he is going to be okay.

“We were alerted by his shouting and by a waitress who saw him hanging off a balcony.

“He fell from the second floor onto a concrete interior patio. It was because he was sleepwalking, not because he’d been drinking and was larking around or anything like that.”

Officers from the local Civil Guard are probing the incident.
