Cliffs of Moher staff to go on strike
Last night, the company operating the €27 million centre at the Cliffs stated that it has put in contingency plans to ensure that it is business as usual at the attraction during the industrial action.
The SIPTU members account for around 20 of the 50 staff at the Cliffs and it is not known if the non-union staff will pass the picket this morning.
For the first six months of this year, a total of 345,398 visitors have visited the Cliffs of Moher making it one of the country’s top attractions.
The staging of the strike action follows SIPTU members last night rejecting a revised offer from the Council subsidiary, the Cliffs of Moher Centre Ltd.
At the centre of the dispute is the company’s refusal to implement a 2010 Labour Court recommendation recommending that workers at the Cliffs receive the same pay and conditions as their counterparts at Clare Co Council.
