WHEN Denis Naughten was chucked out of the Fine Gael parliamentary party last week after voting against the Government decision to shut A&E services at Roscommon, Enda Kenny probably thought the matter was closed.

A few more days’ protest, perhaps, and then the controversy would go away.

Instead, he has been personally caught up in the firestorm after an audio recording emerged of his own pre-election promise on the issue to the people of Roscommon.
