TONNES of animal remains, mostly horse carcasses, have been removed from a location near Killarney, Co Kerry.

It is understood that some of the remains had been buried, leading to fears of water supply contamination.

Gardaí, Department of Agriculture veterinary inspectors and Kerry County Council environmental officers are involved in the investigation, on foot of complaints made last Tuesday.
