Man charged with stealing pensioner’s €28k life savings

A MAN has been charged with impersonating a garda and stealing €28,000 from a Cork pensioner who had withdrawn his life savings from the bank and was on his way to Medjugorje.

Detective Garda Aidan Forrest arrested Kenneth Lyons, aged 28, of 25 Willison Meadows, Tower, Blarney, Co Cork, and charged him with two counts.

Objecting to bail because of the seriousness of the charges, Det Garda Forrest said it was alleged that the defendant called to the pensioner’s home before 7am on Sunday and told him he was a member of An Garda Síochána stationed at Gurranabraher Garda Station.
