FSAI critical of inaccurate allergy labelling

THE Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has found that 94% of foods carrying allergy warnings actually pose no risk to consumers.

The FSAI survey found that, in almost all the products tested, there were no detectable levels of the allergen referred to on the label.

The survey, which involved 267 tests on 229 food samples, aimed to determine the level of compliance and accuracy of labelling in relation to peanut, egg or soya ingredients.
