Gunman in stand-off

THERE were dramatic scenes in Waterford city last night as a man on top of a four-storey apartment block waved what appeared to be a gun.

Armed gardaí and negotiators were called to the scene at the Glen, Penrose Lane, at around 5.30pm.

The man was wearing a dark-coloured tracksuit and a light-coloured cap. He was carrying what appeared to be a handgun, although gardaí did not confirm whether it was a real weapon or a replica.
