RETIRING consultant psychiatrist Dr Moosajee Bhamjee has described parts of the mental health service as “grossly inadequate” and discloses he remains pessimistic for the future of the service.

Marking his retirement from the HSE after 37 years of service, the South African-born doctor said he is leaving a mental health service where morale is very, very low.

“You would expect as society becomes more modernised, our mental health services would be improving, but there are not. The opposite is the case.”
