PEOPLE in crisis and at risk of taking their own lives have nowhere to turn and action community groups are being left to try and cope with them, it has been claimed.

Concern over spiralling suicide rates in areas such as Glanmire and Mayfield in Cork city has led to the communities taking matters into their own hands to address the problem.

Two groups, Glanmire-based SAFE — Suicide Awareness For Everyone — and the Mayfield Action on Suicide are voluntary groups set up as a direct response to increasing suicide rates.
