Mitchell seeks FG nomination

FINE Gael’s campaign for the Presidency will have a distinctly EU flavour as Gay Mitchell joins fellow MEP Mairead McGuinness in a bid for their party’s nomination.

They are expected to be joined by former European Parliament president Pat Cox, who has lodged his application to join the party in his home constituency of Cork.

Mr Mitchell, 59, reversed an earlier decision when he formally announced yesterday that he will be putting his name forward to become the Fine Gael candidate at the convention, which is expected in the first half of next month.
