IRELAND has moved a step closer to becoming the cyber-crime prevention capital of Europe after a multimillion-euro project was given the backing of Justice Minister Alan Shatter.

Mr Shatter announced the move just weeks after Irish customers’ accounts were attacked on the Sony Playstation system by hackers.

As part of a University College Dublin initiative aimed at tackling the threat of international cyber-crime, more than €4 million is to be pumped into UCD’s 2Centre course section.
