Two-year term for man who rammed Garda car three times

Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin imposed a four-year sentence on Tim Dennehy at Cork Circuit Criminal Court and suspended half of it. He also banned Dennehy from driving for 10 years.

Dennehy, of 25 Cathedral Road, Gurranabraher, Cork, pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment where he drove so dangerously he created a risk of injury or death in the early hours of July 8, 2010.

The sentencing hearing heard gardaí required Dennehy, who had 166 previous convictions, to stop and they activated the blue lights and siren on the patrol car.

Garda Des Cogan said Dennehy took off at speed from Blackrock Road to Douglas Street and on to Industry Place off Barrack Street where he reversed his 98-registered Ford Escort in to the front of the Garda patrol car.

He rammed the patrol car for a second time on Watercourse Road and again near Blackpool shopping centre.
