‘Kerry reliant on Ryanair’

THE privately-operated Kerry Airport was competing with Shannon and Cork airports — each under two hours away and effectively state-owned — for business and was also very much dependent on one airline, Ryanair, a report from the airport to the county manager has said.

Kerry, which has jet standard runways, is seeking direct connections with Scotland and Italy, alongside its current German, British, Spanish and Portuguese flights, according to the report.

The council is a shareholder in the private airport and asked, on foot of council motions, for a report on plans to increase passenger numbers and expand routes.
