IRELAND will rely on British security checks for visitors allowed into the Republic under a major overhaul of visa rules, Justice Minister Alan Shatter has admitted.

The relaxation of restrictions will make it easier for tourists from India, China and 12 other mainly Middle Eastern countries to visit Ireland from this July.

The move is intended to boost the hospitality industry and end the practice of tourists with a visa to Britain needing to pay another €60 to enter Ireland.
