€470m jobs package gets lukewarm reception

MODEST PROPOSAL

THE Government’s much vaunted “Jobs Initiative” met with a distinctly lukewarm response after Finance Minister Michael Noonan admitted the €470 million package was a “modest” one with no money to fund anything bigger.

It came as international organisation the OECD confirmed Ireland’s unemployment rate was running at 14.7% in March.
