Sports stars gear up for cancer charity sale
Current and former Munster and Ireland rugby stars — Anthony Foley, Keith Wood, Jerry Flannery, Paul O’Connell, Donncha Ryan and David Wallace among others — have donated gear, including t-shirts, jackets and jerseys for the sale which takes place tomorrow at Lakeside Hotel, Killaloe.
Also weighing in with their support will be members of Tipperary’s All-Ireland winning squad who will donate items as well as being in attendance to sign items purchased or brought along on the day.
The Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk takes place on Saturday, May 28 and walkers can register at www.pinkribbonwalk.ie. In addition to sportswear, other items donated include rowing machines, cross-trainers and exercise bikes.
According to organiser of the sale, Carmel DeMello, all items must go.
“Killaloe Pink Ribbon Walk is now just over three weeks a way and we are doing everything we can to reach our target of raising over €80,000,” she explained.
“We would like to take this opportunity also to urge people to sign up for the walk which is an excellent opportunity to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer charity and get in some healthy exercise in one of the most picturesque parts of Ireland in the process.”
The 10km Killaloe Pink Ribbon walk starts at the Lakeside Hotel and travels along a picturesque route through the foothills overlooking Lough Derg before swinging back down into the town and culminating at the hotel.
There is a €20 registration fee to cover administration, insurance, health and safety etc. and all participants are asked to raise a minimum of €100 sponsorship.
