9 weeks left of scrap scheme

UP to 5,000 cars are likely to be entered into the scrappage scheme in the next two months, according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).

The scheme is coming to an end in nine weeks’ time and SIMI has urged anyone interested in availing of it to allow at least six weeks for any transaction, as there is likely to be a peak in interest in the next two months.

It is understood about 17,000 cars were scrapped last year under the scheme, contributing to the overall figure of 88,000 new cars bought in 2010.
