YOUNG teachers unable to find work are being forced to seek help from St Vincent de Paul to pay for food and other bills because their “yellow pack” rivals are taking up school positions.

A sub-section of the Association of Secondary School Teachers Ireland (ASTI) has claimed “dozens” of recent graduates are struggling to support themselves because of the crisis situation.

Speaking at the second-level teachers’ union’s annual conference in Cork, non-permanent teachers’ committee member Paul McGrath said he is aware of teachers struggling to pay for food, gas and electricity.
