Luskasz Jedryszik suffered serious spinal cord injuries when he fell from the horse while riding in Fermoy, Co Cork on October 9 last.

The 29-year-old, who came to Ireland six years ago from Poland, is now confined to a wheelchair and is being cared for at his Kinsale home by his wife, Maya.

“After the accident I spent two weeks in the Mater Hospital (in Dublin) and then a further three-and-a-half months at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire,” Mr Jedryszik said.

He is hoping to be able to walk again, thanks to pioneering stem cell treatment being carried out in China which could mend his spine.

“There have been a lot of improvements in stem cell treatment in China in the last two years. They are doing pioneering work and as well as doing the treatment they also ensure you get rehab for six weeks after, so I would have to stay there for that length of time,” Mr Jedryszik said.

His doctors have told him he will have a better chance of spinal cord regeneration if he gets the treatment done within the next 12 months.

Friends have organised a major golf classic which will be held at Doneraile Golf Club on May 10 next. The cost of entry for a team of four is €200 and tee box sponsorship is available for €50.

Anybody wishing to enter the golf classic is asked to contact Mary Cronin at 086-1701351.

A further fundraiser is being organised for the Mountain House Bar, Ardfield, Clonakilty on June 18 next.

A special bank account has also been opened in the AIB branch in Mallow to support Lukasz Jedryszik’s medical treatment in China. The account number is 20175024 and the sort code is 93-61-36.
