Mice make life hell for women
Mum and daughter Sheila and Lisa Wright claim their lives were made hell since their neighbour moved out leaving hundreds of mice breeding out of control in the house next door.
The woman kept a huge pet python called Lucifer and bred mice to feed him.
But since the woman left with Lucifer three months ago, the mice have multiplied and have infested several homes at James Larkin Court in Letterkenny, Co Donegal.
Horrified Lisa said their troubles only began when their neighbour moved out taking her snake and other animals with her.
“We didn’t have any problems before this. It’s only since she moved out that this has happened. She had all sorts of animals, including the snake, two turtles, three dogs, hamsters and the mice. There are now at least five houses on the estate crawling with mice,” she said.
One of the worst moments for the pair came a few days ago when Sheila went to make herself some toast for breakfast and a mouse popped out of it.
“I had only bought the new toaster and I had to throw it out. The sight of the mouse coming out of it and running along the top of the worktop will stay with me for the rest of my life,” she said.
“We just can’t eat at home anymore. The thought of eating in that kitchen is making us sick. It’s costing us a fortune eating out,” said Sheila.
Another neighbour revealed how council workers recently removed an old mattress from the garden of the former neighbour and it was literally “crawling with mice.”
Now Lisa thinks they could even have rats.
“I have heard noises and they’re not just mice, unless they’re wearing boots. Also the bin in my room was knocked over and a mouse wouldn’t be able to do that,” she said.
Last night a spokesman for Letterkenny Town Council said it had plans to send out a team of exterminators to assess the problem.
