NEW laws will be enacted to combat white-collar crime, while a national DNA database is to be set up to significantly aid Garda investigations.

Legislation set to enhance fraud bureau’s powers

Justice Minister Alan Shatter said he planned to publish shortly legislation for “enhanced powers of investigation” which will bolster Garda powers in the fight against white-collar crime.

The minister said he wanted to ensure that the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation (GBFI) was given all the resources possible because its work is vitally important.
