DIRECTORS appointed to lucrative state board positions in Fianna Fáil’s last days in office have not been asked to step down despite a pre-election promise by Fine Gael to do so.

The Government said it will not be sacking anyone appointed to paid positions by the last administration because it does not have the legal powers to do so.

It has also failed to request that they step down to allow new members to be appointed, as promised during the election campaign.
