Property boom with out of this world prices

WHILE property sales here have come crashing to earth, sales of plots on the moon are rocketing, with almost 40,000 Irish people now owning land on our nearest neighbour.

In a bid to cheer ourselves up in these dark times and with a price tag that is not out of this world, it’s no wonder that more and more Irish people are buying into this lunar lunacy.

For just €20, investors can be the proud owners of an acre of land on the fifth-largest satellite in our solar system — and receive a Declaration of Ownership to prove it.

Those looking for a slightly bigger investment can purchase a 10-acre lunar deed for €100 — a fraction of the €8,800 average cost of an acre of rural land here. Buyers will also receive a Space Site Map showing where their property is located and the Lunar Constitution and Bill of Rights, detailing the laws on it.

According to Angela Young of Moonestates.com, property on the moon is popular in Ireland because it taps into Irish humour. “Perhaps it is due to the upcoming 50th anniversary of the first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, but in the past few months Irish people have flocked to the site to buy plots on the moon,” she said.

“I think worries over the economy have also played a part — there have been a lot of gift plots bought to cheer friends up and we have been getting orders from young couples who can’t afford to buy a house. We have sold a plot to someone recently who was giving it to a friend that recently lost their home so I think that the idea just appeals to the Irish mentality and great sense of humour.”

She said the website will give 1,000 acres of prime moon land to the 40,000th Irish customer.

“We also sell plots on Venus and Mars, but the moon is definitely the most popular with Irish people. It’s a great, affordable pick-me-up.”

With Bob Geldof and Bono as fellow moon landowners, you could be buying into an out-of-this-world neighbourhood.
