Dissidents ‘pose severe threat’ to PSNI officers

A TOP level briefing prepared for Justice Minister Alan Shatter warned that dissident republicans posed a “severe” threat, particularly to PSNI officers.

The document was published days before the murder of Catholic police officer Ronan Kerr. The 25-year-old died on Saturday when a bomb exploded as he got into his car in Omagh, Co Tyrone.

The Real IRA or a local outfit affiliated to the terror group is suspected of being behind the atrocity.
