NEW regulations aimed at standardising income limits for those seeking social housing were launched yesterday.

Under the new scheme, variations between local authorities as to income limits and how income was defined should disappear, with three income threshold bands established and housing authorities assigned to a band based on an analysis of the local private rental cost of accommodation in each area.

Minister or Housing and Planning, Willie Penrose, also announced an increase of €5,000 in each of the income bands.
