DOG owners who don’t clean up after their pets soil town and city streets have been branded vandals after an elderly nun slipped on a canine mess, breaking her hip.

The Sister of Mercy nun slipped on excrement on O’Rahilly Street in Nenagh and sustained an impacted fracture of her left hip. Her ordeal prompted a colleague, Sr Anna May Guest, to write to the council “to complain about the unsightly and dangerous condition of the footpaths in Nenagh town due to dog soiling”.

Sr Guest said the other nun, who was not named, had to undergo follow-up surgery at Croom Orthopaedic Hospital following the fall.
