CONCERN has been raised that Fine Gael may row back on promises to vet state board appointments through an independent commission.

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar also admitted yesterday that it was now unlikely the Government would be able to remove appointees who received positions in the dying days of the last government.

Mr Varadkar told RTÉ there was no point having someone on a board who might be “hostile” to the Programme for Government.
