Inquest into murder of two cousins adjourned as Garda probe continues

THE inquest into the double murder of two cousins, gunned down outside Tesco late last year, has been adjourned to allow gardaí more time to investigate.

Glen Murphy, aged 19, from 91 O’Devaney Gardens, and Mark Noonan, aged 23, from 13 Drumalee, both in North Circular Road, Dublin 7, were shot dead outside the service station at the Clearwater shopping centre in Finglas, Co Dublin, in November last.

The two men had been at a friend’s house on Rathbourne Drive in Finglas earlier that evening, and had gone to the petrol station for cigarettes.

They parked their car, a dark grey Toyota Avensis, beside the shop in the service station, before walking towards the hatch.

A BMW 5-series vehicle pulled alongside the two men and two gunmen opened fire on the cousins.

Requesting an adjournment of the inquest yesterday, Inspector Colm Fox from Blanchardstown Garda Station said the investigation into the murder of the young men “was very much alive”. He was granted a six-month adjournment of the hearing.

A postmortem carried out by pathologist Michael Curtis found the victims died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Extending his sympathy to the families, Dublin City Coroner Dr Brian Farrell said the pathologist was satisfied the “two men died instantly in the shooting”.

He said he could not make any further comment while the garda investigation was continuing.

He adjourned the inquest until September 19.
