Coalition to fight water charges

WATER charges will be strongly resisted with a “can’t pay, won’t pay” campaign lead by the five United Left Alliance (ULA) TDs similar to the fights against bin charges in the 1990s.

The ULA said the plan for water metering contained in the Programme for Government is one of the areas where the parties have broken their pre-election promises.

The umbrella group including the Socialist Party and People Before Profit accused the new coalition of “shamelessly betraying” those who voted for a change by offering more of the same.
