Sweet news as old favourites return to shelves

But now sweet-toothed nostalgics can tuck into all their old favourites once again with the launch of Lidl’s Retro Week.

From Monday shoppers at the discount chain will be able to reminisce about “the good old days” by indulging in treats from the past including Caffrey’s Snowballs, Klipso bars and Country Spring Lemonade.

Refresher bars, Dolly Mix and Drumstick lollipops will also be helping shoppers take a trip down memory lane, though sadly for a little more than the pocket-money friendly 1p and 5p price tags that many will remember.

For more savoury food fans, blocks of Galtee and Calvita Cheese Singles — the staple in most lunchbox sandwiches during the ’80s and ’90s — will also be available.

Lidl spokesperson Aoife Clarke said the phrase “the good old days” could have been coined for Retro Week.

“Starting Monday, all Lidl stores will resemble a childhood dream. Take yourself back to the days when a macaroon bar was the stuff dreams were made of, washed down by Country Spring red lemonade — life was much simpler then.”
