Solar solution to our energy needs
That’s according to Dr Mazhar Bari, chief executive of Solar Print, who will be speaking at an Engineers Ireland seminar, Ireland’s future energy projects, at 9am on Tuesday.
Dr Bari also said that use of just six selected areas on the Earth’s surface could produce 18 Terrawatts, enough to meet the energy needs of the whole of the world’s population.
Dr Bari will be joined at the Engineers Ireland seminar by Andy Kinsella, chief executive Offshore, Mainstream Renewable Power, who will explore the energy potential of offshore wind and the merits of a European renewables supergird.
Engineers Ireland director general John Power said: “Energy scarcity and climate change pose critical challenges, both in Ireland and internationally. However these challenges also offer huge opportunities to be optimised by individuals and organisations alike. The aim of this one-day CPD seminar is to identify the current and future engineering capacity and skills needed to deliver solutions to our energy and climate challenges. In attempting to do so, the seminar aims to provide existing and future engineers, engineering businesses and educators a roadmap to Irish and international opportunities and needs in these sectors.”
The Engineers Ireland event will also see contributions from Andrew Cooke, Eirgrid; Michael Mackey, ESBI; Dave Kirwan, Bord Gáis; Gary O’Callaghan, Siemens; John Reilly, Bord Na Móna; Mark Foley, Coillte Enterprise and Mark Coyne, Dalkia.
