The probe followed a report by an 87-year-old local man that a person who called to his house asked to collect his postal vote.

An elderly woman in the area also claimed she was approached by a person asking to collect her postal vote.

A man and a woman have since been interviewed by gardaí and a file is being prepared for the DPP.

Following the allegations, which were made about a week prior to the election, former Fianna Fáil TD for Kerry South John O’Donoghue, who lost his seat, and Castleisland Fine Gael councillor Bobby O’Connell called for an inquiry.
