UP TO 10 vehicles were involved in a mid-morning pile-up on the Dublin to Limerick motorway outside Portlaoise yesterday.

Two drivers had to be hospitalised following the accident, which involved six trucks and four cars. It happened at about 8.45am as a heavy fog covered parts of the M7 between junction 16 and 17.

Meanwhile, gardaí are investigating a collision between a car and a tractor in which a woman in her late 40s died. The crash occurred at Knocklofty, on the Clonmel to Ardfinnan Road at about 12.30pm yesterday. The female driver, named locally as Patricia Bray, was the sole occupant of the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor was unhurt.
