Off-duty garda struck by car

AN off duty garda in his 40s has suffered serious injuries after he was struck by a car driven by a suspected drunk driver.

He was walking in Cork city yesterday afternoon when he was hit by the car which was driven by a man in his early 20s.

The garda, who works in a station in east Cork, was walking along Brothers Delaney Road which runs through Blackpool Shopping Centre — which connects the new and old Mallow roads — when he was struck by the car.
