Man further remanded over Limerick killings
The accused John Geary, aged 31, was further remanded in custody when he appeared at Newcastle West court.
He is charged with the murder of Sarah Hines, aged 25, her children Reece Hines, aged three, Amy Hines, aged five months, and Alicia Brough, aged 20, at Hazelgrove, Newcastle West, on November 15 last.
Geary, originally from Milford, Co Cork, with an address at Meadowcourt, Newcastle West, is scheduled to appear in court again on March 24.
Inspector Eamon O’Neill made an application for a further remand.
John Herbert, defending, asked Judge Mary O’Halloran to “note the time running”. He said the charges were before the court since last November and the file had not yet been sent to the DPP.
Mr Herbert said he understood there were a number of stumbling blocks in the way of the state.
Insp O’Neill said there were three gardaí working full time on preparing the file which he said included 400 statements. He said there were 350 different lines of inquiry and gardaí had to travel to Britain to interview a vital witness.
Insp O’Neill said the investigation was being conducted as expeditiously as possible and he hoped to be able to tell the court on March 24 the file had by then been sent to the DPP.
Judge O’Halloran granted the remand.
