IN the face of potential pay cuts of up to 20%, the ESB group of unions has written to staff telling them they must not let the recession be used as an excuse to cut their terms and conditions while the company is still profitable.

The company has confirmed it wants to cut €130 million off the total €600m payroll as part an overall cost-cutting drive.

It says it needs to make the savings “in order to be competitive into the future, sustaining and growing the business.”
