THE Irish Farmers’ Association has welcomed commitments given by the main party leaders to defend Ireland’s agricultural interests in forthcoming EU talks.

The executive council of the IFA met yesterday with the leaders of Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fáil to hear their policies on the industry prior to Friday’s vote.

Enda Kenny, Eamon Gilmore and Micheál Martin all said they would fight to protect Ireland’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) budget if in power after the election.
