Pledges on public transport and TV licence fee ban

THE Green Party has pledged to spend three times more on public transport than roads and to abolish the television licence fee if part of the next government.
Pledges on public transport and TV licence fee ban

Launching its transport manifesto, 75:25 Transport Vision, in Dublin, Green transport spokesperson Ciarán Cuffe said: “The Greens advocate investment in environmentally sustainable transport modes. This means investing in public transport rather than building new, hi-spec roads. And it means proper planning over urban sprawl and championing carbon-free means of travel, such as cycling and walking in our towns and cities.”

The proposal to abolish the licence fee came from Dublin South TD Eamon Ryan, who said as Communications Minister he had been working on a new type of funding for public service broadcasting.
