THE Labour Party has promised to revamp the tourism industry, help farmers scale up the meat and dairy sectors and boost Irish food businesses.

The party promised yesterday, if elected to power, to boost job numbers in theareas with a number of initiatives aimed at attracting more tourists and helping farmers through reward payments.

Launching the party’s plans for the rural economy, agriculture spokesman Sean Sherlock pledged that Labour would fight to retain the€1.3 billion in EU payments to farmers as part of the Common Agricultural Policy.
