New government will get one chance at reform

There will be hell to pay if the next government fails to implement the changes voters are crying out for, writes TP O’Mahony

HERE’S the thing — the next government will be given just one chance, one chance only to take significant steps to mend our broken political culture. And then it’s curtains if they blow it. Curtains, and maybe even chaos.

Strange forces and energies are stirring in Europe and the Middle East, and it would be foolish to think we are entirely shielded from them. That might have worked in the 1930s, but not now. Not in 2011.
